With hat tourism on Ambergris Caye having grown 66% over the past 4 years and a limited land supply on the island, things naturally need to grow and develop. Currently San Pedro Town in the only town located on the island at the Southern most point and with the growth in tourism and relocation of the Baby Boomers the island has a necessity to expand to the North. The natural area of future development being the lots at secret beach as roads have already been put in place. Essentially, the area is poised to become the new town center. In addition to this one of the most major developments we have seen occurred just 2 miles directly off the coast of secret beach where famous actor, Leonardo DiCaprio acquired the island of Blackadore Caye and has not only announced via the New York Times him plans for a $250 million development he will be doing, but has already taken a major step ahead in having his EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) approved and has set construction to begin in 2017. This alone is bringing more attention then imaginable to the secret beach area but the excitement continued when prime Minister Dean Barrow announced that an new international airport will be put on Ambergris Caye in response to the fact that it is by far the number one tourism destination in Belize. With 70% of the overnight tourists visiting Ambergris Caye at some point on their visit, this airport is the logical play and they have taken steps forward by selecting a building and beginning to clear the site which will be 10 miles north of secret beach.
